
The RBI has released Data on bank credit for February 2026, which has been collected from 41 selected scheduled commercial banks (SCBs). These banks account for about 95% of the total non-food credit of all SCBs. The detailed data is given in Statements I and II.
On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, non-food bank credit grew by 14.3% as of the fortnight ending February 28, 2026. This is higher than 11.1% growth recorded during the same period last year (March 7, 2025).
Key Highlights
1. Agriculture and Allied Activities
Credit to agriculture and related activities grew by 12.3%, compared to 11.4% in the same period last year.
2. Industry Sector
Credit to the industry grew by 13.5%, much higher than 7.5% last year.
- Credit to micro, small, and medium industries continued to grow at a strong pace.
- Credit to large industries also increased.
- Growth was mainly driven by sectors like infrastructure, engineering, chemicals, petroleum products, and textiles.
3. Services Sector
Credit to the services sector grew by 16.3%, compared to 11.7% last year.
- This growth was supported by higher lending to NBFCs and commercial real estate.
4. Personal Loans
Credit in the personal loans segment grew by 15.2%, up from 11.7% last year.
- Housing loans showed steady growth.
- Vehicle loans and loans against gold jewellery saw strong growth.
