Bank Unions Warn Against Calling Staff on Holidays

The issue of holiday working in banks seems not to end. UFBU has announced a protest against the new PLI scheme for senior executives of Banks but some Regional Heads of Banks are still calling staff to work on holidays.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), Pune unit, has issued an advisory and warning to public sector banks. The union said that some bank staff are being asked or forced to work on declared holidays during the protest period. It stated that no employee should be called to work on holidays while the agitation is ongoing. The advisory also warned that any such instructions, whether written or verbal, will be considered against the agreed protest framework.

Possible Consequences

The union warned that if banks continue this practice:

  • It will be seen as an attempt to weaken the ongoing agitation
  • It may lead to industrial disputes and further escalation
  • It can damage the reputation of the concerned bank

The UFBU has requested bank management to immediately stop calling staff on holidays and follow the guidelines during the agitation period.
