Bank Employees across India are protesting against the new Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme introduced by DFS. UFBU has urged Bank Employees to follow strict work hour rules. UFBU has asked Bank Employees not to sit late in office and withdraw extra co-operation. The agitation has received a massive response from bank employees and officers across the country.
According to UFBU, employees from bank branches as well as administrative offices participated actively in the protest. Bank Employees are angry against the Government for providing PLI to Scale IV and above officers and not to junior officers.
Why Employees Are Opposing the New PLI Scheme
The issue is not just about incentives. UFBU said that the revised PLI formula proposed by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) is one-sided, divisive in nature, and against the existing agreement-based system. The current PLI system is uniform for all employees and is based on the collective performance of the bank.
As per new PLI Scheme, Scale IV and above officers will be paid double salary.
This new system has created differences among officers. The unions said that officers in Scale IV and above may be separated and individual performance-based evaluation will be introduced. This could create inequality and dissatisfaction, reduce teamwork, and weaken the collective work culture in banks. Employees believe this move may harm unity and affect smooth banking operations.
Matter Already Under Conciliation
The issue is currently under discussion with the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central). A meeting was held on 9 March 2026 where the issue of PLI payment for officers in Scale IV to VII for FY 2024-25 was discussed, and further discussions were planned. UFBU said that during such ongoing conciliation, no unilateral action should be taken.
But the Government of India has ignored the CLC and issued letters to Banks to credit PLI. Bank Employees say – What’s the use of CLC if Govt is not listening to them.
UFBU has warned the Government that if PLI is credited it will lead to flash strikes. UFBU will announce Strike if PLI is credited to Scale IV and above officers.
